Day 1

Arrival to Mendoza. Transfer to hotel. Gear check.

Night stay at hotel.

Day 2

On February 1st Mendoza-Fiambala 1500m. 800km on private transfer. 15h trip through the famous and mystic Ruta 40. Night stay at Fiambala Hosteria Municipal.

Day 3

Fiambala-Hotel Cortaderas 3300m. 70km. 2h trip. Easy day traveling in vehicle after breakfast. Altitude starts kicking in at this point. Short trek around. Last night with restrooms and bed.

Night stay.

Day 4

Cortaderas-Vega el Cuerno 4200m. Early in the morning ride to the Puna Volcanoes. 2h ride on the paved road and after start heading north road gets challenging. 30′ before getting to camp we get off to hike while the vehicle, carrying all luggage and gear, drives around a water spring to avoid damage or pollute it.

Trekking by the creek, unusual in these areas. Set up camp by spring water creek.

Day 5

Acclimatization trek Vega del Cuerno and rest day

Day 6

Ascent Cerro Pequeño 8000 Laguna Fria 5200m. This peak has few ascensions. Morning drive 1h to reach 4700m. 4-5h trek to summit and back to vehicle. 1h drive back. 7h round trip. Night Camp.

Day 7

Vega del Cuerno- Pre Base Camp Ojos del Salado, Penitentes 5200m. Early start driving to Ojos del Salado on a very challenging 4×4 road reaching above 5000m. 6h trip. Set up camp. Spring water available. Night camp.

Day 8

Acclimatization and rest day.

Day 9

9. Cerro Olmedo 6250m. The most aesthetic volcano in the area. We use the vehicle to gain altitude to 5500m. 6-7h trek to summit and back. Descent to Pre BC Penitentes.

Day 10

Pre BC Penitentes-Campo Arenal Base Camp 5500m. Short day moving camp to the last point reached by vehicle. 1h trip. Set up Base Camp at Ojos del Salado. Spring water available. Active rest day

Day 11

Base Camp to C1 5900m. 4h ascent. Early start to set up camp and rest for the next day.

Day 12

Summit Ojos del Salado 6893m. Day starts at 6 am. 9-10h ascent to summit. 3h descent to C1.

This is one of the expedition’s longest day. The ascent trail is not evident and the sand makes it strenuous. There is not much difference between the Argentinean and Chilean summits, and they are close to each other. The descent is fast on loose sand. If the time allow us we will continue to Base Camp. Good dinner and celebrate the summit…

Day 13

Pack Base Camp. Long drive back to Fiambala. Celebration dinner at Famous Fiambala Hot Springs. Night stay at Fiambala Hosteria Municipal

Rest day

Day 15

Fiambala-Mendoza. Early drive back to Mendoza. 12h trip.

Night stay at hotel

Day 16

16. Rest day in Mendoza. Apply for Aconcagua’s Climbing permit.

Day 17

Mendoza -Penitentes 2700m. Leaving to Penitentes where luggage is transport by mules to Plaza de Mulas Base Camp. This day we start the trek to Confluencia 3300m. This camp has Dining Domes, accommodations, kitchen and excellent cooks. 3h trek.

Nigh camp.

Day 18

Confluencia-Plaza de Mulas 4200m. 7 am start for a little strenuous 7-8h trek. Arrival to Plaza de Mulas Base Camp equipped with Sleeping Domes, Dinning Domes and a great Hi-top cook team. Also equipped with Wifi, restrooms and showers. Ideal place to rest and admire Aconcagua’s West Face.

Rest Day at Plaza de Mulas Base camp

Day 20

20. Plaza de Mulas Base Camp-Canada C1 4900m and Nido de Condores C2 5400m. Porter day to bring food and gear to C1 and C2, to go lighter the next few days.

Back to Plaza de Mulas Base Camp. 7h trek.

Day 21

Plaza de Mulas Base Camp-Canada C1 4900m. Leaving Base Camp to start ascending the mountain. 4h Trek to Canada C1.

Set up Camp and rest.

Day 22

Canada C1-Nido de Condores C2 5400m. Continue ascent to C2. 4-5h trek.

Day 23

Rest Day at Nido de Condores C2.

Day 24

Nido de Condores C2-Colera C3 5900m. We move to the last of the Aconcagua’s High Camps. 4-5h slow day ascent to adjust our bodies for the summit.

Day 25

Summit Push. Leaving around 5 am to summit. Possible the expedition’s longest day but, surely being well acclimatized. 7-10h ascent. 4h descent. About 15h aprox.

Day 26

Colera C3- Plaza de Mulas Base Camp. Pack camp at Colera C3. Descent relatively fast and easy by the Arenales.

Day 27

Plaza de Mulas-Penitentes-Mendoza. Long day descent but happy for the accomplishment. Transfer to Mendoza city.

Day 28

End of trip.
